This event arises from the need for a space at the Latin-American level to hold a multidisciplinary meeting aimed at exchanging knowledge of basic and applied scientific research regarding human health, animal health and environmental ecosystems. In Latin America we have a large number of E. coli researchers therefore one Latin-American Symposium covering different aspects of diarrheagenic E. coli genomics, proteomics, pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis and new approaches for treatment.
In some Latin American countries enteroaggregative, enteropathogenic and enterotoxigenic E. coli pathotypes are either endemic or responsible for diarrheal outbreaks. Furthermore, the high incidence of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome in Argentina calls us to assume a social commitment considering that a scientific meeting with a transversal approach will facilitate the implementation of programs, policies, legislation and research to achieve better public health results.
This Symposium will also strengthen the links between the different groups that carry out research in this area at the national level, based on scientific updating, the training of human resources, also contributing to generating greater awareness in society about this disease.
This Symposium is of benefit to everyone and especially that it contributes to the training of young researchers in our countries.
The Symposium will stimulate the participation of young researchers and PhD students who will provide knowledge about reservoirs, transmission routes, incidence of diseases associated with Diarrheagenic E. coli and its impact on public health.
